Two keys to unlock potential, Discover and Reveal.
Hello, this is Ichiki from Sync Logistics.
Our mission is: “UNLOCK POTENTIAL, CREATE THE WORLD.”
We chose these words because we believe that within each of us lies potential that has not yet been fully realized. The question, then, is how we can bring that potential to the surface. I believe there are two essential steps: first, discovering potential, and second, drawing it out.
Today, I would like to share my thoughts on these two steps, based on my own experience.
■ Discovering Potential
At Sync Logistics, we encourage each employee to reflect on and put into words their past experiences and personal values through questionnaires and dialogue. Career paths and job choices are often influenced by circumstances or timing, but within those decisions there are always individual preferences and judgments. That is why it is important to look at what experiences a person has accumulated and why they chose them.
For example, someone who served as a leader in sports during their school years often develops the ability to naturally assess situations and coordinate people within a group. Likewise, someone who worked in customer-facing roles, such as at a hotel reception desk, often builds strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adjust their approach depending on the person they are dealing with.
These experiences may feel so natural that individuals do not recognize them as strengths or potential. For this reason, I try not to judge people only by their current titles or visible achievements. Instead, I make a point of listening carefully to their past experiences. Even experiences that may seem unrelated at first can contain important clues to uncovering potential.
■ Drawing Out Potential
Once potential is discovered, the next step is how to help it emerge.
Even if potential becomes visible through past experiences, it does not automatically appear in daily work. In fact, if someone remains only within their usual routine, that ability may stay dormant. That is why, regardless of age or position, I value giving opportunities to those who raise their hand and say they want to take on a challenge.
When people are given the chance to challenge themselves, they must think independently, make decisions, and take responsibility for tasks and results. By spending time deeply reflecting on and confronting themselves, they begin to recognize possibilities they may not have been aware of before. I believe this is how abilities that had not yet been expressed begin to shine in new ways.
Looking back, I was also given opportunities to challenge myself when I was younger. I was trusted and given expectations to live up to. By continuing to take on those roles with a strong desire to meet that trust, I was able to bring out potential within myself that I had not even recognized.
To realize our mission of “UNLOCK POTENTIAL, CREATE THE WORLD,” I want to continue drawing out the potential of each employee. When people’s possibilities expand, the organization moves forward. And as that progress accumulates, it ultimately contributes to creating a world enriched by human potential.
Thank you for reading until the end.
